Hinckley shot Reagan in an attempt to impress actress Jodie Foster whom he had an obsessional fixation on. Antenucci, a labor union official was outside the Washington Hilton Hotel where he noticed Hinckley with a handgun. The Reagans sent the family a telegram expressing condolences when Alfred Antenucci died at 71 in 1984 Antenucci is honored for this act and a street is named after him.
